2:00 PM
Indy 500 Veterans Autograph Session #1 just completed, minus Paul
Goldsmith - the one driver I was hoping to see and talk to.  Have a
connection to him through Tony Stewart, who I managed and who took
Paul's flight school while I was working for him.  After seeing my work with
Tony, Paul wanted to hire me to market a pothole filling machine!  No joke.

Veterans Autograph Session #2 takes place from 3-4 PM.

Still a lot of fans milling around the Pagoda Plaza, where there's vintage
cars on display, food, music and beer available!  Lots of people just sitting
and soaking in the atmosphere here at this famous facility.

Took a quick walk around the garage area, which is basically empty of
most team activity.  Since the qualified race cars can't be worked on much
after the last practice on Carb Day, most of the teams either got here early
today to finish up final preparations for tomorrow, or simply had the day
off.  Everyone gets to the track so early tomorrow that any last-minute
massaging on their cars can be done then (or, more often than not, teams
do pit stop practice - an equally important part of race day to how fast they
are going).

12:00 PM
The day before the Indy 500!!  Another hot, hazy and humid day here at
IMS.  Major warnings from health and safety officials for today and
tomorrow for people to be careful and stay healthy by drinking plenty of
fluids and staying in the shade as much as possible (ha! like that's
possible here at this massive facility).  Tomorrow's forecast calls for
record-setting heat - possibly the hottest Race Day on record!!

A few years ago, this day was the quiet one of the month at the track - just
the Public Driver's Meeting, then the track went silent until the bomb goes
off at 6AM Sunday morning.  Now, IMS has filled the day with fan-friendly
activities, starting with an autograph session with the starting field in the
morning, the Public Driver's Meeting, the 500 Festival Parade downtown
(where the starting field is presented), and a Indy 500 Veterans Autograph
Session here at the track in the afternoon.  Today is called Legends Day
because of that Veterans autograph session, plus IMS is honoring the
legendary Roger Penske by naming the day for him and there's also a big
Q & A going on right now with the man who has dominated this track as an
owner.

Just like yesterday's Carb Day crowd, the attendance at the Public Driver's
Meeting was HUGE - one of the biggest I've ever seen.  Brave of all of them,
as it's brutally hot today.

The crowd size was, I'm sure, partly to honor Susie Wheldon, the widow of
the late, great Dan Wheldon, who won this race last year but tragically lost
his life in a horrible accident at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway last
October.  Susie spoke, and then was given about a two-minute standing
ovation from the drivers and the fans attending the ceremony -
heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.

Another big ovation came from the introduction of Tony Kanaan, one of
Dan's best friends and my pick to win this race tomorrow.
